Meet Joe Tallent!

My name is Joe Tallent and was born in Atlanta, GA. My father worked for the railroad so we moved all around the southeast. I have lived in Rincon for the past twelve years and work for Effingham Health System. I have two daughters aged 16 and 12.
In August of 2013 a friend of mine mentioned there was a groupon for a place called Rx Elite Fitness which was located in a warehouse in Rincon. The first thing that popped in my mind was no AC. I purchased the groupon and went to my first beginners class at Rx Elite Fitness. It was horrible. I had to take multiple breaks to catch my breath and visit the water fountain. I couldn’t decide if I was going to vomit or pass-out.   One of the coaches came over to check on me and told me to take as much time as I needed. This really impressed me. I was expecting the coach to start fussing and yelling at me about sitting down.

The next day I was so sore I could hardly move. At 41 years old I thought to myself, will I ever recover? I debated making that my last class, besides if I somehow survived and made it through the beginners class I would have to face the one they call “Darcy”. I was scared to death to go to her class.

The more I went the more I liked it, no loved it. Keep in mind I was still in the beginners class. I felt secure in that class. The workouts were scaled down from what the “others” had to do. The “others” were the group of genetically altered super humans that “Darcy” created. She was either from another country or another planet where the currency is Burpees. She doles them out as gifts especially on your birthday. I finally moved to the intermediate class and realized how welcoming and helpful the “others” were as well as the one they call “Darcy”.

The more I got to know all the coaches I was amazed at their knowledge and how much they truly care for each and every member of the box. I cannot express in words how much they mean to me and how much I appreciate everything they have done and continue to do. CrossFit Groundspeed has truly changed my life in so many. So far I have lost a total of 80 lbs. I have gone from a size 46 pants to a 40 and a tight XXXL shirt to a loose XXL. My CrossFit family has empowered me to do things I never thought I would try. (5K, 10k, obstacle course race, Olympic Weightlifting Competitions, and a CrossFit competition)

Thank you Joe for trusting us, at CrossFit GroundSpeed, with your health!  We want nothing but the best for all of our Athletes!  You are so encouraging to others at our box and we greatly appreciate you!

Keep up the Good Work!
