Bob’s athletic background began like most young men, trying different sports and having fun doing anything competitive. He excelled at wrestling and soon found himself on a collegiate wrestling team. After his wrestling career ended, he moved to the weight room. As a competitive powerlifter, Bob has drug-free bench press records still standing. With his heavy training, Bob soon saw muscular development and entered into bodybuilding to fulfill his competitive desires. He has won or placed second on the National, USA and North American Bodybuilding Championships throughout his career. But it was in cross-training for Superstars competitions that Bob first had a taste of what CrossFit was all about.
Finally, after 2011, Bob was tired of the standard gym scene and decided to give CrossFit a try. In 2013, he qualified for the Games as a Master’s competitor. In 2014, he joined CrossFit GroundSpeed as a co-owner and coaches every chance he gets. Bob spends his days as a professor of Sports Medicine at Armstrong State University in Savannah. And when he isn’t coaching a WOD in his free time, he is coaching weightlifters for Team Savannah.
Bob has a PhD in Human Performance from Auburn University, is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), a National-level coach for USA Weightlifting (USAW), and is CrossFit (CF-1) certified. He has been on ESPN and CNN, and has been quoted as an expert by USA Today, The New York Times, CBS Evening News, The Washington Post, and Parade magazine.
